A privacy filter darkens the screen to anyone viewing from an angle, so a passing colleague sees black rather than your work. On a large monitor that matters more, not less — a 27in screen is visible from across a room.
It is standard practice in finance, HR, healthcare, legal and any open-plan office where personal data appears on screen.
Measuring. The stated size is the diagonal of the visible panel, and it must be paired with the correct aspect ratio — a 27in 16:9 filter and a 27in 16:10 filter are different shapes and do not interchange. Check the monitor’s specification, or measure corner to corner.
Removable versus fixed. At this size a magnetic or slide-in removable filter is often the better buy: large monitors are frequently shared for presentations and reviews, and being able to lift the filter off in seconds means it actually gets used rather than removed permanently after the first meeting.
One honest caveat: filters dim the screen slightly and affect colour, so they suit office work better than design work.
The range covers Fellowes, Kensington, Targus, StarTech and PIXL.
