Wi-Fi Routers

The router is the device your entire network depends on, and no adapter or extender can be faster than what it provides.

Standards. Wi-Fi 5 (AC) is the older baseline. Wi-Fi 6 (AX) is the sensible current minimum, and its real advantage is handling many devices at once rather than raw speed — which is what a modern household with phones, TVs, consoles and smart plugs actually needs. Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 add the 6GHz band, which is far less congested but does not travel as far through walls.

Ports. Check the WAN and LAN speeds. If your broadband is faster than 1Gbps, a router with gigabit-only ports will cap it.

When a router is not the answer: if the problem is coverage rather than speed, a bigger router rarely fixes it. A mesh Wi-Fi system puts several units around the property on one network name, which is the right fix for a large or awkwardly shaped home.

Wi-Fi Routers Buying Guide and FAQ

This Wi-Fi Routers range covers routers. Below are the common questions.

Which router suits my home?

For a flat or small house a good single router is plenty, while a larger or multi-floor home benefits from a mesh system. Match the router to your home size and broadband speed.

Should I replace my ISP router?

Provider routers are often basic, so a better standalone router can improve range, speed and stability. You usually keep the ISP box in modem mode or connect to it, then let the new router handle the Wi-Fi.

What matters for gaming and fast broadband?

Look for the latest Wi-Fi or, better still, a wired connection, strong gigabit ports, and Quality of Service to prioritise game traffic. Low, steady latency matters more than headline speed.
