Description

Anker Soundcore Nebula P1 – a portable projector that brings its own speakers

The Anker Soundcore Nebula P1 solves the problem almost every portable projector has: thin, tinny sound. Instead of one small driver buried in the chassis, it carries two wireless speakers that lift straight off the body and run for up to 20 hours each. We recommend it for film nights in the garden, spare rooms and flats where a permanent home cinema is not an option. Because Google TV is built in, you can carry it to a friend’s house, set it on a table and be watching in about a minute.

Anker Soundcore Nebula P1 – at a glance

Metric Spec.
Brightness 650 ANSI lumens
Native resolution 1080p (1920 x 1080), 16:9
Light source 4-LED, rated 25,000 hours
Audio 2 x 10W detachable wireless speakers, Dolby Audio
Image size 80 to 180 inches, 1.20:1 throw ratio
Smart platform Google TV, Netflix certified

Two detachable speakers, not one built-in driver

The two speakers, 10W each and 20W together, sit magnetically on either side of the projector and charge there. Lift them off and you get genuine stereo separation, because you can place them metres apart rather than a few centimetres. Each one holds up to 20 hours of playback, so they keep going long after the film ends and double as a pair of Bluetooth speakers for music. Dolby Audio decoding handles the soundtrack, and an IP54 rating means dust and a light shower outdoors are not a problem for them.

650 ANSI lumens from a 25,000-hour LED engine

The 4-LED light source is rated for 25,000 hours, so there is no lamp to replace and no gradual dimming over the years. At 650 ANSI lumens the P1 is tuned for evening and dark-room viewing rather than a sunlit living room, which is the honest trade-off for a projector this size. Colour is its strength: 124% Rec.709 coverage means skin tones and film grades land close to what the director intended, and HDR10 and HLG content is accepted rather than rejected.

The 130-degree gimbal does the aiming for you

A dual-arm gimbal lets you tilt the projector through 130 degrees and it holds that position without drifting. Point it at a wall, at a ceiling or up from the grass, and the picture follows. Anker’s Intelligent Environment Adaptation then handles the rest: real-time autofocus, automatic keystone correction in about six seconds, auto screen fit and obstacle avoidance that shifts the image away from a light switch or a shelf. A Smart Eye Protection sensor dims the beam if someone walks in front of the lens.

Google TV is built in, so you do not need a streaming stick

Google TV runs on the projector itself, with access to more than 400,000 films and shows and full Netflix certification, so nothing needs sideloading. You sign in with a Google account, use voice search through the remote and get the same recommendations you see on a smart TV. For anyone who has fought with a dongle dangling off the back of a projector, this alone is worth the money.

Connections, gaming and noise

Ports cover HDMI 2.1, USB-A 2.0, a 3.5 mm audio output and USB-C with 100W Power Delivery, which is also how the projector is powered. A 10 ms low-lag gaming mode makes a console genuinely playable on a 100-inch image. Fan noise stays at 27 dBA in Eco mode and 30 dBA in normal mode, quiet enough that it disappears under the soundtrack.

Before you order

  • There is no internal battery. The P1 runs from the mains through its 100W USB-C adapter, or from a portable power station such as the Anker SOLIX C300, which gives roughly 3.5 hours.
  • At 650 ANSI lumens this is an evening and dark-room projector. In a bright, sunlit room the image will look washed out.
  • The 1.20:1 throw ratio needs roughly 2.7 metres of distance for a 100-inch image (a 100-inch 16:9 picture is 2.21 m wide), so check your room depth.
  • The unit weighs 2.38 kg and measures 124 x 284 x 130 mm with the speakers docked, and the built-in handle is designed for carrying it that way.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can the speakers be used on their own, away from the projector?

A: Yes. They detach magnetically, connect over Bluetooth and run for up to 20 hours each, so you can use them as a stereo pair for music.

Q: Does it have a battery for use in the garden?

A: No, the projector has no internal battery. It needs a mains socket or a USB-C power station that can supply 100W.

Q: Is it a 4K projector?

A: The native resolution is Full HD 1080p. It accepts 4K sources over HDMI and scales them down to 1080p.

Q: Do I need a separate streaming device?

A: No. Google TV is built in and Netflix is certified on the device, so you only need Wi-Fi and a Google account.

Q: Can I use it for gaming?

A: Yes. The HDMI 2.1 input has a 10 ms low-lag mode intended for console play.

Our verdict

Buy the Nebula P1 for the sound. Plenty of portable projectors reach 1080p and run Google TV, but almost none give you 20W of detachable stereo that you can spread across a room and then take to the kitchen afterwards. Accept that it wants a dark room and a mains socket, and you have one of the most complete grab-and-go cinema kits available.
