StarTech.com 50ft Hybrid Active Optical HDMI 2.1 Cable, CMP Plenum Rated, 8K 48Gbps

StarTech.com 50ft HDMI 2.1 Hybrid Active Optical Cable | CMP Plenum Rated

The StarTech.com 50ft (15.2m) HDMI 2.1 Hybrid Active Optical Cable (AOC), CMP, Plenum Rated, 8K Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1/2.0 Fibre Optic Cable, 48Gbps, 8K 60Hz/4K 120Hz,… is engineered for professional AV installations. It targets integrators routing high-bandwidth signals through office plenum spaces. The key USP is its hybrid AOC design, which combines fibre optics with copper conductors for reliable 8K transmission over long distances without signal degradation.

Slim 48Gbps Hybrid AOC for Plenum Spaces

This cable uses a hybrid construction with fibre optic cores and copper conductors. It offloads low-bandwidth signals like EDID and HDCP to copper while transmitting 8K video over fibre. This design greatly reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) across the full 15.2m length.

The CMP-rated jacket meets strict fire safety standards for plenum spaces. It produces low smoke and flame characteristics, making it suitable for ceilings and in-wall runs in UK commercial buildings. The 4.6mm outer diameter remains flexible for tight installations.

Full HDMI 2.1 Feature Set for Pro AV

The cable supports the complete HDMI 2.1 specification. It handles 48Gbps bandwidth via High Bit Rate 3 (HBR3), enabling 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz. High Dynamic Range 10+ (HDR10 Plus) with 12-bit colour depth delivers enhanced contrast and vibrant imagery.

Audio support includes Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) for uncompressed 7.1 and 32-channel audio streams. Display Stream Compression 1.2a (DSC) and Forward Error Correction ensure stable signal delivery. HDCP 2.3 provides secure content protection between source and display.

Robust Construction for Demanding Installations

The optical fibre core is reinforced with Aramid strands for tensile strength. It is rated to withstand over 6,000 bending cycles at 120 degrees, protecting the cable during routing through tight spaces. The aluminium mylar foil shielding further guards against signal interference.

Operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 45°C, with storage from -10°C to 70°C. The cable handles 10–90% relative humidity. These specs suit typical UK indoor environments, but always verify your specific installation conditions.

Critical Unidirectional Installation Note

This cable is unidirectional and must be installed in the correct direction. The connectors are labelled SOURCE and DISPLAY. You must connect the SOURCE end to your video output device and the DISPLAY end to your monitor or projector. Incorrect orientation will result in no signal.
