GTA 6 PC Release Date, Requirements and Xbox Cloud: When GTA 6 Will Be on PC
GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. It comes out on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, Rockstar has not announced a PC version, and on 7 October Xbox ruled out playing it on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch. Every main GTA since GTA III, plus Red Dead Redemption 2, reached PC between 6 and 19 months after the consoles. For GTA 6, that points to somewhere between June 2027 and mid-2028.

GTA 6 PC release date: what Rockstar has confirmed so far
Here is everything that is actually confirmed, as of 7 October 2026:
- GTA 6 comes out on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two, Rockstar’s owner, has repeated that date to investors.
- There is no PC version announced. No date, no price, no system requirements, and nothing to pre-order on PC.
- It is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One either.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming will not stream it to PC at launch. Xbox said so on 7 October, after a report suggested otherwise. More on that below.
So if you search for a GTA 6 PC release date today, any exact date you find is a guess. The only solid guide is how Rockstar has handled its own PC versions before, which we date further down. If you are thinking of buying it on console, our GTA 6 pre-order guide covers the editions.
Will GTA 6 be on PC, and why is GTA 6 not coming to PC at launch?
It will almost certainly come to PC eventually, but nobody at Rockstar or Take-Two has said so in as many words.
Take-Two’s chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, explained the console-first launch to Bloomberg in May: “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer.” In other words, most of GTA’s buyers play on PlayStation and Xbox, so those versions come first.
In September, Zelnick went a step further at an investor meeting. According to GRYOnline’s report, he said Take-Two brings its games to every platform with a big enough audience, and that PC is gradually becoming more important to the company. That is as close to a promise as you will get before an announcement.
There is also a practical reason. Rockstar has used the extra time on its past PC versions to add higher settings and fix problems. Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived on PC a year late, with better visuals than the console version. A PC version also has to work on thousands of combinations of parts, where a console is one fixed machine.
When will GTA 6 be on PC? Every GTA port since GTA III, dated
We took every main GTA game since GTA III, plus Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar’s most recent big open-world game. For each one we counted the days between the console launch and the PC launch, using the North American release dates:
The pattern changed with the bigger games. The first four ports took about seven months. GTA V took 19 months, and Rockstar released PS4 and Xbox One versions in between. Red Dead Redemption 2 took just over a year.
Here is what each gap would mean for GTA 6, counted from 19 November 2026. These are not predictions, just Rockstar’s own history laid over the new date:
| If GTA 6 follows… | Gap | GTA 6 on PC around |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City, the fastest port | 6.4 months | June 2027 |
| GTA III, San Andreas or GTA IV | 6.9 to 7.4 months | June to July 2027 |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | 12.3 months | Late November 2027 |
| GTA V, the slowest port | 18.9 months | June 2028 |
Rockstar’s record is not a promise, though. The first Red Dead Redemption came out on consoles in May 2010 and only reached PC in October 2024, more than 14 years later.
Our read: the two recent games are the better guide, because GTA 6 is the same kind of huge, modern open world. That makes late 2027 to mid-2028 the likely window, and a PC version before mid-2027 would break Rockstar’s pattern.
Betting traders see it a little more hopefully. On the Kalshi prediction market, the chance of a PC release before the end of 2027 was 59% on 7 October, according to Action Network. It fell by about 18 points that week, after the Xbox cloud story below was corrected.
Will GTA 6 be on Xbox Cloud Gaming, and can you play it on PC that way?
Not on PC, at least not at launch. Here is what happened this week.
The Verge reported that Xbox had secured exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6. The report was based on comments by Xbox chief executive Asha Sharma at an internal staff meeting. Because Xbox Cloud Gaming runs on PCs, phones and smart TVs, that would have let you play GTA 6 on a PC without owning a console.
On 7 October, Xbox’s chief strategy officer, Matthew Ball, posted a correction on X: “We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
Two things are still unclear:
- Whether GTA 6 streams anywhere at all at launch. The Verge’s Tom Warren says it will be on Xbox Cloud Gaming, possibly limited to Xbox consoles, while Windows Central’s Jez Corden has suggested it may not stream on any service at launch. Microsoft has not said which devices will get it.
- How much streaming you get. From November, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes 15 hours of cloud streaming a month, with more hours for sale, and a pay-as-you-go option is due the same month.
For a PC player, the answer is simple for now: the Xbox Cloud Gaming app on your PC will not offer GTA 6 at launch.
Can you play GTA 6 on a PC with Remote Play from your own console?
Possibly, but only if you already own a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, and nobody has confirmed it.
Remote Play is different from cloud gaming. Instead of a Microsoft server running the game, your own console runs it at home and streams the picture to your PC. Both companies have an official app for this:
- PS Remote Play for Windows streams from your PS5 to your PC. Sony’s own page warns that “some games don’t support Remote Play”.
- Xbox remote play streams from your Xbox to a Windows 10 or 11 PC (version 22H2 or later). Xbox asks for 5GHz Wi-Fi, or a mobile connection of at least 10Mbps.
Matthew Ball’s statement was about Xbox Cloud Gaming, not Remote Play, and Rockstar has not said whether GTA 6 will allow it. So treat it as a maybe. It is useful if your console sits under the TV and you would rather play at your desk, but it is not a way round buying a console.
GTA 6 PC requirements: what Rockstar’s last PC release asks for
There are no GTA 6 PC requirements yet. Any list you see with a minimum and recommended graphics card is made up, because Rockstar has not announced a PC version. What you can use instead is three real yardsticks.
1. The consoles it was built for. GTA 6 is made for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5’s graphics chip has 36 compute units running at up to 2.23GHz, with 16GB of memory shared with the processor. BGR’s comparison names the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT as the closest PC graphics card, and a little more powerful than the PS5. A PC needs some margin above a console, because a console is tuned for one fixed set of parts.
2. Rockstar’s most recent PC requirements. When GTA V Enhanced, the updated PC version, came out in March 2025, Rockstar asked for:
| GTA V Enhanced | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics | GTX 1630 (4GB) or RX 6400 (4GB) | RTX 3060 (8GB) or RX 6600 XT (8GB) |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-9590 | Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 8GB | 16GB, dual-channel |
| Storage | 105GB, SSD required | 105GB, DirectStorage-compatible drive |
That is for a game first released in 2013, and Rockstar already made an SSD the minimum. A game built for the PS5 is very likely to ask for more, and you should expect a fast SSD to be essential.
3. What PC gamers actually own. Steam’s September 2026 hardware survey shows that 19% of Steam PCs have less than 8GB of video memory, below what Rockstar recommends for GTA V Enhanced. On system memory, 32GB (42.2%) has just overtaken 16GB (37.8%) as the most common amount. One caution: the share of Chinese-language systems in that survey jumped by 7.4 points the same month, which can move these figures on its own.
So can you run GTA 6 on PC? Nobody can tell you yet. If your PC runs GTA V Enhanced at its recommended settings with plenty to spare, has 8GB or more of video memory, at least 16GB of RAM and an SSD, you are in a reasonable starting position. If it does not, the PC version will probably be a reason to upgrade, just not yet. Our explainer on DLSS covers the upscaling that will likely matter most on mid-range cards.
Will GTA 6 be on Steam and Steam Deck?
There is no GTA 6 on Steam today, because there is no PC version. If you see a Steam page or a Steam pre-order offer for GTA 6, it is not real.
When a PC version does come, Rockstar’s history says Steam will be one of the places to buy it. GTA V came out on Steam on its PC launch day in 2015. Red Dead Redemption 2 launched first on Rockstar’s own launcher in November 2019 and reached Steam the following month. Even the Steam version of GTA V Enhanced requires Rockstar’s own launcher to be installed, so expect the same for GTA 6.
The Steam Deck is a bigger question. It is a handheld PC with much less graphics power than a PS5, so even if GTA 6 does reach PC, there is no guarantee it will run well on it, and no word at all from Rockstar. Our Steam Deck guide covers what the handheld can and cannot run today.
Should you upgrade your PC for GTA 6 now?
- If you want to play GTA 6 in November, you need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. There is no PC route at launch. Console prices went up this year, which our console price guide explains.
- If you only play on PC, do not upgrade for GTA 6 yet. There are no requirements to aim at, the PC version is probably more than a year away, and memory prices have climbed this year, as our RAM and SSD price guide shows. By the time GTA 6 reaches PC, newer parts will be out.
- If you are buying a gaming PC or laptop anyway, buy it for the games you play now. Leaving room for the future means a graphics card with more than 8GB of video memory, 32GB of RAM and a fast NVMe SSD. Our gaming PC buying guide and graphics card guide cover the trade-offs.
- If you own a console and want to play at your desk, try Remote Play on launch day and see whether GTA 6 allows it.
Quick answers
Not at launch. GTA 6 comes out on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, but Take-Two says PC is becoming more important to it, and every main GTA game since GTA III, plus Red Dead Redemption 2, has reached PC eventually.
There is no date. Every main GTA since GTA III, plus Red Dead Redemption 2, reached PC 6 to 19 months after the consoles. Counted from 19 November 2026, that points to between June 2027 and mid-2028, with the two most recent games suggesting late 2027 or later.
Take-Two’s chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, says Rockstar always starts on console to serve its core players first. Rockstar has also used the extra time on past PC versions to add higher settings and fix problems.
Not at launch. On 7 October 2026, Xbox’s Matthew Ball said GTA 6 “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC”. Remote Play from your own Xbox to your PC is a separate feature, and nobody has confirmed whether GTA 6 will support it.
Nobody knows yet, because there are no PC requirements. As a yardstick, GTA V Enhanced already recommends an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 XT with 8GB of video memory, 16GB of RAM and requires an SSD, and GTA 6 is a much newer game.
Not yet, because there is no PC version. When one arrives, Rockstar’s past games suggest it will be sold on Steam as well as Rockstar’s own launcher, which the Steam version of GTA V also needs.
No. GTA 6 is only coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Not yet. There are no requirements to aim at and the PC version is probably more than a year away. Buy for the games you play now, and decide on GTA 6 when Rockstar publishes PC specs.
How we know
We have not played GTA 6, and nobody outside Rockstar has played a PC version. The console release date and the console-first reasoning come from Take-Two’s statements, as reported by Shacknews and GodisaGeek; the September investor comment from GRYOnline. The Xbox Cloud Gaming statement is Matthew Ball’s post on X of 7 October 2026, as quoted by Shacknews and gHacks, and the open questions from IBTimes UK and TechWiser. The port gaps are our own count of days between the North American console and PC release dates listed on each game’s Wikipedia article, and the projected months simply add those gaps to 19 November 2026. The GTA V Enhanced requirements come from Rockstar’s support site, the hardware shares from Steam’s September 2026 survey, the Remote Play details from Sony and Xbox, and the PS5 graphics comparison from BGR. All were read on 7 October 2026.
