10+ Port Hubs

At ten ports and above, a hub is a docking station in everything but name — the single connection that a whole desk hangs off.

At this size a self-powered unit is not optional. Ten devices cannot share a single laptop port’s power budget, and a bus-powered hub with this many ports will produce intermittent, hard-to-diagnose faults: drives that disconnect, devices that work alone but not together. Every serious hub at this port count includes its own mains supply, and that is the specification to confirm.

The second thing to check is total bandwidth. All ports share the host connection — 5Gbps on USB 3.2 Gen 1, 10Gbps on Gen 2. Ten ports do not each get the full figure, so if two fast drives will run at once, the higher-bandwidth models are worth it.

Many units at this size are full docks: dual HDMI outputs, gigabit Ethernet, SD readers and up to 140W Power Delivery, so one cable to the laptop carries everything including charging.

The range covers Verbatim, StarTech, Lindy, HYPER and Hama.
