AMD Cooling

These are processor coolers for AMD sockets, principally AM4 and AM5.

The good news on mounting: AM4 and AM5 use the same cooler mounting dimensions, so a cooler bought for an AM4 build will physically fit an AM5 board. That is unusual and genuinely useful when upgrading — you can carry the cooler over.

On whether you need one at all: many boxed Ryzen processors include an AMD Wraith cooler, and on a 65W part used for everyday work that is adequate. Where it runs out is sustained load — long renders, compiles or gaming sessions — when the processor will reach its thermal limit, reduce clocks to stay there, and be audible doing it. The X and X3D parts generally ship without a cooler at all.

A tower air cooler costing very little more will hold higher clocks and run considerably quieter. Check its height against your case clearance and that it will not foul tall memory modules.
