Dell RAM
Memory sold under a Dell part number is specified and validated by Dell for particular machines.
For most desktops and standard laptops, that is not strictly necessary. Memory is a standardised part: a DDR4 or DDR5 module of the right type, speed and format will work, and a good third-party module from Kingston, Crucial, ADATA or Team Group is frequently cheaper for the same specification.
Where the Dell part genuinely matters: servers and workstations using registered or ECC memory, where the platform is fussy about the exact module and the support contract may require validated parts; and machines still under a support agreement where third-party components could complicate a claim.
Whatever you buy, match four things against the machine: DDR4 or DDR5, DIMM for desktop or SO-DIMM for laptop, the speed in MT/s, and whether the system needs ECC. Dell publishes the supported configuration for each model by service tag.
