Silent Keyboards

Quiet typing comes from the switch under the key, not from the price of the board, so it is worth knowing which kind you are buying.

Membrane boards like the Genius KB-117S and the Dell KM555 set are quiet by design — there is no click mechanism to silence, just a soft rubber dome. Silenced mechanical switches take a normal mechanical keyboard and add dampening inside the switch to absorb the bottom-out and the return. That is what the be quiet! Light Mount and Dark Mount linear boards use, and what the VIDA MAGNA does with Outemu Peach silent switches. A linear switch has no tactile bump, so it is the quietest feel as well as the quietest sound.

If you share a room, work night shifts or spend the day on calls, the switch type matters far more than whether the board is wired or wireless.

Silent Keyboards Buying Guide and FAQ

This Silent Keyboards range covers keyboards. Below are the common questions.

What should I look for in this keyboard?

Look for a comfortable layout, reliable keys and the size that fits your desk. Pick the feel and size you like.

Which switch or layout should I choose?

Linear switches are smooth and quiet for fast gaming, tactile switches give a gentle bump for mixed use, and clicky switches are loud and satisfying for typing. UK buyers usually want the ISO UK layout so the symbols sit where you expect.

Wireless or wired, which is better here?

Wireless keeps your desk tidy and modern low-latency models feel great for gaming, while wired never needs charging and is simplest. Choose wireless for flexibility and wired for fit-and-forget value.
