Streaming Webcams

A streaming webcam is specified for a different job from a conferencing one. On a video call the platform compresses heavily and caps quality; on a stream or a recording, the full output is used, so the camera’s real capability shows.

What matters for streaming, in order:

Frame rate. 1080p at 60fps looks noticeably smoother in motion than 30fps, and for most streamers it is a better buy than 4K at 30fps.

Low-light performance. Determined by sensor and lens quality rather than resolution — a good 1080p camera beats a cheap 4K one in a normally lit room.

Field of view and framing. A wider lens takes in more of your setup; some cameras offer selectable angles so you can crop tightly to your face.

Manual control. Being able to lock exposure, white balance and focus matters, because auto modes hunt distractingly when you move or the light changes mid-stream.

Worth saying plainly: lighting improves a stream more than any camera upgrade. A key light in front of you is the first purchase.
