Office Monitors

For office work the specification that gaming monitors are sold on — refresh rate — is close to irrelevant. Four other things decide whether a screen is comfortable for eight hours.

Resolution. Full HD is fine to 24in. From 27in upward, QHD keeps text crisp; below that it starts to look soft.

Panel type. IPS gives wider viewing angles and more consistent colour than VA, which matters when two people look at one screen or when the monitor sits off to one side.

Stand adjustment. A tilt-only stand usually leaves the screen too low, which is what makes necks ache. Height adjustment is the single most valuable feature on an office monitor, and pivot lets you rotate into portrait for documents.

Connectivity. USB-C with power delivery lets a laptop run the screen, its USB devices, the network and its own charging over one cable. Conferencing models from HP and Dell add a webcam, microphone and speakers.
